Every summer, Kalkan evolves just a little. New cafés pop up and open their doors, favourite restaurants introduce fresh recipes , wellness experiences continue to flourish, and returning guests discover somewhere they somehow missed on previous visits. It’s one of the many reasons people find themselves returning to this enchanting corner of Turkey’s Lycian Coast year after year.
With summer now in full swing and guests arriving each week, certain conversations seem to come up time and again. From exciting new wellness trends and artisan bakeries to harbour dining, beach clubs, hidden local favourites and practical holiday tips, we’ve gathered together some of the things our guests have been talking about most so far this summer.
Rather than another list of ‘must-see’ attractions, think of this as our seasonal concierge journal – a collection of observations, recommendations and little discoveries inspired by the experiences of the guests we’ve welcomed to Kalkan this year.
Whether you’re visiting for the very first time or returning to your favourite corner of the Mediterranean, we hope these local insights help you discover something new and make your next holiday even more memorable. We’ll continue updating this guide throughout Summer 2027 as our guests uncover new restaurants, experiences and local favourites.
Kalkan is Becoming a Wellness Destination
One of the biggest changes we’ve noticed over the past couple of seasons is the growing focus on health and wellbeing. More guests are returning home saying they managed to maintain their healthy routines while still enjoying everything a Mediterranean holiday has to offer.
Morning yoga classes overlooking the sea continue to prove incredibly popular, with several waterfront venues, including Indigo Beach Club and Mahal Beach Club, offering sessions where the only soundtrack is the gentle sound of the waves. Beginning the day with a stretch before breakfast has become a favourite ritual for many of our guests. If you’re looking for the perfect place to unwind by the water, our guide to Kalkan’s beach clubs showcases the different atmospheres and experiences each one has to offer.
For those who enjoy more intensive training, there’s exciting news too. Kalkan’s fitness community continues to grow, with the Shape Up Community regularly organising Hyrox-style functional fitness sessions, particularly on Saturday mornings. It’s become a fantastic way for holidaymakers to keep up with their training whilst away, often exercising alongside friendly locals and fellow visitors. If you’re preparing for your next race or simply don’t want to interrupt your routine, our guide to gyms and fitness in Kalkan includes everything you need to know before you travel.
Of course, wellness in Kalkan isn’t only about exercise. Traditional Turkish hammams, restorative massages and luxurious spa rituals remain just as much a part of the experience as ever. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing treatment after a day on the water or a traditional Turkish hammam, you’ll find plenty of inspiration in our guide to Kalkan’s best spas and wellness experiences.
The town’s growing wellness offering has also inspired new places to stay. In June 2026, Casa Pery welcomed its first guests, becoming Kalkan’s first hotel with a dedicated wellness focus. Designed for travellers who value relaxation, movement and mindful living, it has quickly established itself as one of the destination’s most exciting new boutique hotels. If you’re considering a restorative escape, discover more about Casa Pery.
Everyone Seems to Be Talking About the Bakery Scene
Returning guests have noticed something rather wonderful this year — Kalkan’s bakery scene has never been better.
Villa holidays and freshly baked bread seem to be a perfect partnership, and many guests have made morning bakery visits part of their daily routine.
Two names keep coming up in conversation.
Flame, on the Kalamar Road and part of the well-known Korsan family, has become something of a morning institution for lovers of buttery French pastries. Fresh croissants, pain au chocolat and pain aux raisins disappear quickly each morning alongside beautifully baked sourdough loaves.
Just along the road, Gulbahar Bakery has developed an equally loyal following. Guests regularly tell us about their delicious sourdough bread alongside freshly baked walnut loaves, cheese and jalapeño pastries, cinnamon rolls and other daily specials.
There’s something wonderfully indulgent about returning to your villa with a warm paper bag filled with pastries before enjoying breakfast overlooking the pool.
Every Beach Club Has Its Own Personality
One question we’re asked time and again is, “Which is the best beach club?”
The honest answer is that there really isn’t one.
Each offers something slightly different, and that’s exactly why guests enjoy trying several during their stay.
Some prefer peaceful floating platforms where the day revolves around swimming, reading and long leisurely lunches. Others love vibrant cocktails, stylish surroundings and relaxed music throughout the afternoon.
Several returning guests have been delighted to see familiar faces managing some of Kalkan’s favourite beach clubs once again, while others continue to evolve with new seasonal menus, creative cocktails and excellent service.
Our advice? Don’t choose just one. Half the fun is discovering which atmosphere suits you best and get a sense of what they offer here in our guide to beach clubs in Kalkan.
Sunset Dining Has Become an Occasion
One trend we’ve noticed this summer is that guests are making much more of their evenings.
Rather than simply heading out for dinner, many now enjoy arriving early to watch the sun begin to dip behind the mountains before lingering over cocktails, sharing generous meze platters and enjoying the relaxed pace that Kalkan encourages.
Restaurants overlooking the harbour and public beach continue to be particularly popular, so booking ahead during July and August is becoming increasingly worthwhile.
Sometimes the most memorable evenings aren’t about finding the “best” restaurant at all – they’re simply about being with your favourite people and generous hospitality.
Great Food Doesn’t Have to Cost a Fortune
Like everywhere, people are becoming more mindful of spending, but one thing we’ve loved hearing this season is how many guests have discovered excellent local restaurants offering fantastic value.
One new addition creating plenty of conversation is Doy Doy on the Kalamar Road, where traditional Turkish hospitality, grilled meats, freshly prepared daily meze and wood-fired pides have already earned a loyal following.
Guests have particularly appreciated finding somewhere serving authentic local food in a relaxed atmosphere, proving once again that some of the most memorable meals aren’t always the most expensive.
Holiday Pampering Is Becoming Part of the Experience
Many guests now build a little self-care into their holiday.
Whether it’s treating yourself to a Turkish hammam, booking a relaxing massage or simply enjoying a holiday manicure before dinner, Kalkan offers plenty of opportunities to slow down and indulge.
Several guests have also mentioned Allure Beautique, whose friendly Turkish-British team offer everything from hair styling and blow dries to nail treatments, beauty therapies and wellness rituals. Having English spoken fluently has been particularly appreciated by first-time visitors.
More Guests Are Heading Out Onto the Water
While relaxing beside the pool remains one of Kalkan’s greatest pleasures, plenty of guests have been making the most of the incredible Mediterranean coastline too.
Boat trips continue to be one of the highlights of any stay, but we’re also hearing more about paddleboarding, kayaking, scuba diving and watersports.
For anyone wanting to experience Kalkan from a different perspective, local operators such as Aristos Watersports and Kalkan Dive Centre continue to offer a wide range of activities suitable for beginners and experienced adventurers alike.
Seeing the coastline from the water remains one of the most memorable experiences in this beautiful part of Turkey.
Thursday Market Never Disappoints
Even guests who have visited Kalkan many times still look forward to market day.
It’s the perfect place to stock up on fragrant spices, locally produced olive oil, olives, dried fruit, Turkish delight and handmade souvenirs to take home.
Many guests tell us it’s also one of the best places simply to wander, chat with local traders and experience everyday life beyond the harbour. Explore the local markets.
Our Concierge Team’s Little Tips
After another busy summer, these are some of the little suggestions we’ve found ourselves sharing most often.
- Book popular harbour restaurants a day or two in advance during the busiest weeks.
- Start one morning with coffee and pastries on your villa terrace before the day begins.
- If you’re training for Hyrox or another fitness event, check local gym schedules before travelling – you may be able to join a class while you’re here.
- Carry a little cash for markets, taxis and smaller local purchases.
- Visit the Thursday market earlier in the day if you prefer a quieter atmosphere.
- Pack beach shoes if you plan to swim from the rocks at some of Kalkan’s beach clubs.
- Don’t spend every day in the same place – each beach club offers a completely different atmosphere.
- Leave time in your itinerary for a boat trip. It remains one of the very best ways to experience Kalkan’s spectacular coastline.
- Remember, we have been experts in this region for over thirty years so please call us and we will be delighted to share our knowledge and insights with you.
What Is Surprising Our Guests Most This Summer
Perhaps the biggest surprise wasn’t a new restaurant or a hidden beach at all.
It was how easy it is to settle into Kalkan’s wonderfully relaxed rhythm.
Guests have told us they were surprised they could maintain their fitness routines, enjoy exceptional food, discover artisan bakeries, spend entire days by the sea and still find time simply to slow down.
Many have commented on the warmth of the local people, the ease of walking almost everywhere, the growing focus on wellness and just how many new experiences there still are to discover, even after several visits.
That’s perhaps Kalkan’s greatest quality. It never feels finished.
Every summer brings something new, and every visit leaves you planning the next.
