Gran Hotel Taoro

Gran Hotel Taoro

With a history rooted in the 19th century, Gran Hotel Taoro is one of Tenerife’s most distinguished and storied addresses – now reopened following an extensive restoration and returned to its former grandeur. Overlooking Puerto de la Cruz, it once drew European royalty, writers and notable figures to the island’s lush and rugged northern coast. Today, its heritage remains firmly intact, balanced by a more contemporary and refined sense of place.

We are truly delighted to introduce a hotel in the north of Tenerife  a part of the island that remains slightly less explored, yet richly rewarding. Given its storied past, unique setting and the level of service it promises, Gran Hotel Taoro feels a natural fit for the Discerning Collection traveller.

Set above the historic town of Puerto de la Cruz, the hotel enjoys wide-reaching views across the Atlantic, towards Mount Teide and over surrounding botanical gardens. This is a very different side of Tenerife – greener, more characterful and deeply connected to the island’s cultural and architectural heritage. From here, guests can explore at a gentle pace, wandering through shaded gardens, historic streets and a town that still feels authentically Canarian.

The restoration has been undertaken with care and restraint, preserving the hotel’s neo-classical architecture while introducing a softer, more contemporary interior style. Colonial influences run throughout, with light-filled spaces, natural textures and a sense of quiet elegance that never feels overstated. The 199 rooms and suites are thoughtfully designed, many opening onto sea, garden or volcanic views, offering a calm and considered retreat after a day of exploration.

Dining is a defining feature of the experience, with a collection of restaurants that place Gran Hotel Taoro firmly on the culinary map of northern Tenerife. From refined Japanese cuisine at OKA by Michelin-starred chef Ricardo Sanz, to the assured fine dining of LAVA and the more relaxed but equally thoughtful Amalur bistro, each space offers its own distinct atmosphere. Atlántico provides a more informal setting for breakfast with sweeping terrace views, while La Carola, beside the pool, brings a lighter Mediterranean touch to long, sunlit afternoons.

For those seeking more than wining and dining, there is plenty to enjoy. Three heated pools sit within the gardens, offering space to unwind, while the Sandára Wellness Centre focuses on restoration, with treatments developed in collaboration with Anne Semonin. Beyond the hotel, the X-Plora programme introduces guests to the culture, landscapes and distinct character of northern Tenerife – from historic towns to volcanic scenery and botanical gardens.

An icon reborn, Gran Hotel Taoro pairs historic grandeur with a renewed sense of purpose – a stay that lingers long after departure, for those drawn to Tenerife at its most characterful and refined.

Our guests love

We love Gran Hotel Taoro for its rare sense of history and presence – a landmark hotel thoughtfully restored and returned to its former stature. Its setting in the greener, more characterful north of Tenerife offers a refreshing contrast to the island’s more familiar side. Add to that a confident dining scene and quietly exceptional service, and it feels entirely at home within the Discerning Collection.
