Argos Hotel
A dreamscape of ancient caves, hidden tunnels, and sun-drenched terraces—Argos in Cappadocia is where history and magic collide in the most extraordinary way.
Some places aren’t just built; they are unearthed, reimagined, and carefully brought back to life. Argos in Cappadocia is one such place—a hotel that feels less like a creation and more like a resurrection of history itself. Perched on the hillside of Uçhisar, the highest village in the region, Argos enjoys sweeping, cinematic views over the Güvercinlik Valley, where the honey-hued rockscape shifts in light and shadow throughout the day.
This is a hotel with deep roots. What began as a thousand-year-old monastery later became a Silk Road camel caravanserai, and after years of meticulous restoration, it has evolved into one of Cappadocia’s most extraordinary places to stay. It took 14 years to transform the ruins of this ancient settlement into a retreat that honours its past, preserving the cave dwellings, tunnels, and mansions that had been carved into the land over millennia. Today, Argos is a living, breathing tribute to the region’s heritage, blending rustic authenticity with a sophisticated, understated elegance.
Spread across 15 acres and between nine historic mansions, the hotel seamlessly melds into the landscape, as though it has always been here. Underground passageways and age-old tunnels connect its square-shaped stone houses, many with their own private terraces, fragrant gardens, and balconies that open onto uninterrupted widescreen views of the valley beyond. Seljuk-inspired architecture, hand-carved motifs, and locally sourced antique furnishings create an atmosphere that is as evocative as it is comfortable. Each of the 71 rooms and suites is unique, shaped by the history embedded in its walls. For the ultimate indulgence, Splendid Suites offer private indoor cave pools, where guests can sink into the warm, mineral-rich waters in complete seclusion.
Dining at Argos is as much about storytelling as it is about flavour. Seki Restaurant, led by a team of visionary chefs, revives centuries-old Anatolian recipes, incorporating locally grown ingredients and seasonal produce into every dish. The hotel’s legendary wine cellar, home to nearly 22,000 bottles, is housed in a network of ancient caves—a place where time slows, and guests are invited to sample the bold, mineral-rich wines of Cappadocia, a region whose winemaking traditions date back to the Hittites. For those seeking something more intimate, private dining in Bezirhane—a 2,000-year-old monastery turned concert hall—sets the scene for an evening steeped in history and candlelit magic.
While Cappadocia’s spellbinding landscapes demand to be explored, Argos also invites guests to slow down and embrace the art of stillness. The hotel has curated a range of bespoke in-house experiences—from sunset picnics overlooking the valley to Turkish hammam rituals in the atmospheric Argos Spa, where age-old wellness traditions are honoured. Winter Corner offers a front-row seat to the valley’s snow-dusted beauty, while Monks Barbecue transforms outdoor dining into an immersive experience, where the scent of grilled Anatolian delicacies drifts through the air as the sun fades into the horizon. And of course, in addition to these wonderfully crafted experiences there is a gorgeous swimming pool with stunning valley views and beautiful terraces and lounge bars to enjoy your favourite tipple while taking in the scenery.
Cappadocia is not simply a destination—it is an experience best explored with expert guidance. Discerning Collection holidays to Argos in Cappadocia include privately guided tours to help you navigate this vast and awe-inspiring national park, uncovering hidden rock-cut churches, subterranean cities, and panoramic hiking trails that few visitors ever see. That said, some of the greatest moments at Argos are found in simply being here. We highly recommend carving out time to soak in the atmosphere, explore at your own pace, and savour the sense of space and serenity that makes this one of the most remarkable places to stay in Cappadocia.
In a nutshell
Our guests love
Below is just a glimpse of Argos in Cappadocia’s many wonderful facilities—a hotel where beautifully appointed cave suites leave no detail overlooked, and lounges, terraces, wine cellars, and sun-dappled lawns are woven between the whispers of history.
Seki Restaurant
Located within Argos in Cappadocia, Seki Restaurant delivers Anatolian cuisine with contemporary flair. The name “Seki,” meaning terraces on the slopes, reflects its breathtaking setting, with panoramic views stretching across the valley. Here, stone and wood architecture blend seamlessly with the landscape, while both indoor and outdoor dining provide the perfect setting for an unforgettable meal. Recognised by Condé Nast and Wine Spectator, Seki has earned its place as one of Cappadocia’s most celebrated dining experiences.
At the heart of Seki’s philosophy is the “Zero Mile” concept, where seasonal ingredients are sourced directly from the hotel’s own gardens, home to 1,800 fruit and olive trees. The menu strikes a thoughtful balance between traditional Anatolian flavours and modern innovation, from delicate cold starters and artisanal pasta to slow-cooked meats and vibrant vegan dishes. Complementing the experience is an extensive wine list, featuring bottles from Cappadocia’s historic vineyards, including selections from Argos’ own cellar, carved deep into the ancient rock. Whether sipping a glass of local vintage beneath the stars or indulging in the flavours of centuries-old recipes, reimagined for the modern palate, Seki captures the essence of Cappadocia—on a plate.
Nahita
At Nahita, dining is an ode to Anatolia’s ancient landscapes and traditions, a place where the past and present intertwine on every plate. Led by renowned chef Ömür Akkor, Nahita’s philosophy is rooted in sustainability, authenticity, and an unwavering respect for the land. Ingredients are sourced within a 60-kilometre radius, drawing from some of the world’s earliest settlements, ensuring each dish is as fresh as it is steeped in history. From handmade manti stuffed with lamb to vine leaves rolled with sour cherry and Anatolian cheese, the menu is a celebration of the region’s time-honoured flavours—elevated, yet beautifully simple.
Set within the timeless stone walls of Argos in Cappadocia, the restaurant’s atmosphere is as immersive as its cuisine. Here, rainwater is collected, produce is grown on-site, and every aspect of the experience honours both tradition and the future. The dining space—serene, soulful, and effortlessly refined—invites guests to savour, slow down, and connect with the deep-rooted culinary heritage of Cappadocia. At Nahita, food isn’t just nourishment—it’s a story, told through every dish, every ingredient, and every moment at the table.
Outdoor Pool
Carved into the hillside with panoramic views over Mount Erciyes and Güvercinlik Valley, the outdoor pool at Argos in Cappadocia is an extension of the landscape itself—serene, seamless, and utterly breathtaking. Heated in winter, it offers the rare luxury of swimming beneath snow-dusted fairy chimneys, while in summer, it becomes a cool oasis under the vast Anatolian sky. A curated poolside menu of light bites and signature cocktails completes the experience, inviting guests to unwind, indulge, and soak up this awe-inspiring scenery.
Argos Spa
Deep within the ancient rock-hewn walls of Argos in Cappadocia, a spa unlike any other awaits—where centuries-old Anatolian wellness rituals meet the finest modern treatments. This is an idyllic place to unwind where their practice is inspired by the healing traditions of the region.
Guided by four core philosophies—Energise, Harmonise, Cleanse, and Indulge—Argos Spa offers invigorating massages, deeply restorative rituals, and luxurious facials using the renowned Valmont brand. Treatments draw from the natural elements of Cappadocia, infusing local herbs and minerals with contemporary techniques to create a truly immersive sensory experience.
Beyond the treatment rooms, the state-of-the-art Argos Gym provides space to recalibrate through movement, while the soothing embrace of the hammam honours Turkey’s age-old bathing traditions. Here, wellness is not just a practice—it is a way of life.
In a nutshell
Our guests love
Perched in the heart of Uçhisar, Cappadocia’s highest and most captivating town, Argos in Cappadocia is a place where history and landscape converge in spectacular fashion. Once home to one of the world’s largest monastic settlements, this extraordinary setting is woven with thousands of ancient cave dwellings, rock-hewn tunnels, and timeworn ruins that speak to centuries of Anatolian heritage.
From its privileged position at the foot of Uçhisar Castle, the hotel enjoys sweeping, cinematic views over Mount Erciyes and the Güvercinlik Valley, where rugged rock formations and golden-hued plateaus stretch into the horizon. Here, nature and culture are inextricably linked—the silence of the valley, broken only by the flutter of pigeons from their carved-out roosts, is as much a part of Cappadocia’s story as its labyrinthine underground cities and frescoed cave churches.
A Landscape Like No Other
Cappadocia’s National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is nothing short of extraordinary. Encompassing more than 24,000 square kilometres of Central Anatolia, it is a geological masterpiece, where towering fairy chimneys, deep canyons, and hidden valleys form a landscape so surreal it defies imagination. From subterranean cities to villages sculpted into the soft tufa rock, Cappadocia is a place that feels carved by nature yet shaped by centuries of human ingenuity.
Often compared to Turkey’s answer to the Grand Canyon, Cappadocia’s scenery is equally monumental and mesmerising—yet unlike its American counterpart, this is a landscape best explored on foot, horseback, or by drifting silently above it in a hot air balloon at sunrise.
A Destination for All Seasons
Cappadocia transforms with the rhythm of the seasons, offering remarkable contrasts throughout the year. Spring cloaks the valleys in a sea of wild poppies, while summer brings an abundance of apricots, grapes, and mulberries ripening under the Anatolian sun. Autumn sets the region aglow with its russet-coloured vineyards, and winter covers the landscape in a pristine blanket of snow, turning Uçhisar and its fairy chimneys into a scene straight from a storybook.

Inspiration- Our regions and properties
Bodrum
Once a small fishing village, enigmatic Bodrum is a thriving destination offering beautiful beaches and chi-chi beach clubs, a sophisticated and authentic array of bars and restaurants together with a fascinating historical and cultural scene; including a 15th Century castle and architecturally interesting buildings.
Sianji Hotel and Well-Being Resort
Gocek and Fethiye
The unassuming beauty of the Gulf of Fethiye & Göcek region is accentuated by its accessibility from the airport: just 20 minutes’ drive to Göcek harbour from Dalaman, which brings you straight into the heart of chichi coastal Turkey. It’s another 40 minutes to downtown Fethiye, a lively, working town with a gentrified seafront and one of the finest harbours on the entire coast. Both provide easy access to an archipelago of twelve islands, crystal clear waters and beneficent winds which make for wonderful sailing. Flanked by dramatic, pine-covered mountains and not a high-rise in site, their waterfront settings are exceptional. Beyond the two harbour towns an array of sandy beaches await, including some of Turkey’s best-known (Ölü Deniz) and less discovered finds such as Kabak and Kidrak.
Kalkan
Kalkan is a picturesque harbour town set in a vast horseshoe bay, flanked by a rocky mountainous backdrop. Villa Quintessentially pretty, it’s optimum features include cobbled narrow passageways and colourful Greek houses with low hanging bougainvillea clad balconies. The bustling café culture and artisan boutiques allow for long lingering lunches, followed by a mooch in search of artisan leather goods, fine jewellery and super stylish textiles. Kalkan has an excellent selection of serviced beach clubs which ring the bay making it easy to spend time chilling by the water’s edge. All have a laid back barefoot vibe, most with waiter service and each offering a slightly different experience. Just up the road, Patara is a favourite for all, this long stretch of golden sand will appeal to little people longing to build a sandcastle or two and the breeze makes the intense peak summer heat more endurable. Beyond the dunes sits the ancient Lycian site of Patara which was once an important trading port and the supposed birthplace of St Nicholas.
Kas
The Kas Peninsula is a wonderful setting for a holiday: the views across the blue sea to the Greek island of Meis are spectacular and the land slopes down to the rocky coastline where swimming platforms let you plunge straight into the crystal clear water.
Kas is perhaps a little like the ‘big brother’ of Kalkan. Like Kalkan, it has an attractive harbour and winding cobbled streets climbing a hillside. It has a slightly bohemian feel, attracting a range of visitors of different nationalities and ages. The town has a wonderful selection of shops and restaurants, many with charming roof terraces with views over the square and harbour front.
The Bozburun and Datça Peninsula
The Bozburun and Datça peninsula’s have a distinctly Greek feel which sets them apart from the rest of coastal Turkey. This is partly because of their proximity to the Greek Southern Dodecanese ring and the island of Symi is just five miles across the strait. Along the roadside is the waft of drying thyme, rosemary and sage as men twiddle worry beads sipping endless cups of Turkish tea. The area is known for its thyme-scented honey which is sold by the roadside.
Istanbul
Istanbul is a spectacular city that you will never tire of. Steeped in ancient history, today it is a café society with a minaret-lined skyline, a confluence of ancient tradition and contemporary delights. It bemuses and amuses in equal measure. The city famously straddles – both geographically and philosophically – Europe and Asia and stimulates every visitor with a melange of the exotic and familiar. Its geographical position alone – at the neck of trading routes between the Mediterranean and Africa – has afforded the city an important trading position since the Byzantine era. And the Golden Horn, nestling within the city, is one of the world’s finest natural harbours.
Cappadocia
The Cappadocia National Park region covers over 24,000 square kilometres with a distinct and highly unusual landscape. The valley of Fairy Chimneys is the most popular area, roughly within the triangle formed by the three main towns of the region, Avanos, Urgup and Nevsehir. There’s really no adequate way of conveying the surreal moonscape- the enormity of the skies and awe-inspiring geology is something that can only be truly appreciated in person.

How To Enjoy Cappadocia
Private Guided Itineraries – Do I need a private guide?
Cappadocia’s surreal landscapes and rich cultural tapestry reward those who delve deeper. To truly unlock the secrets of this astonishing geological landscape, The Discerning Collection highly recommends the expertise of a private guide. A tailored itinerary ensures that your experience is crafted around your interests, whether that be history, archaeology, religion, adventure, or an immersive combination of all. Your guide will not only navigate the region’s must-see wonders but also unveil its hidden corners, revealing less-known cave dwellings, secluded valleys, and off-the-beaten-track sites far removed from the usual tourist trail.
While private guiding is included in our prices, independent exploration is entirely possible, and we offer a reduced rate should you prefer to hire a car or explore under your own steam. Our guides suggest finalising each day’s itinerary over breakfast, allowing for spontaneity and adjustments as you wish.
How Long Should I Stay in Cappadocia?
A fleeting two- or three-night visit will grant you a glimpse of Cappadocia’s otherworldly landscapes and UNESCO-listed treasures, but to truly connect and uncover this region, we recommend at least five days. This allows time to discover its enigmatic underground cities, embark on many scenic treks, and experience the magic of sunrise ballooning, or horse riding without feeling rushed and enjoying the stunning hotel.
Cappadocia is easily accessible from the UK, with scheduled flights from many major UK airports operating almost daily to Kayseri and Nevsehir via Istanbul.
Hot Air Ballooning – A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience
Drifting silently above Cappadocia’s vast, otherworldly landscapes at sunrise is an experience like no other. From your bird’s-eye vantage point, watch as the valleys unfold beneath you—weaving between towering fairy chimneys, ancient cave dwellings, and undulating canyons.
As balloon flights are weather-dependent and operate only when conditions meet air traffic control regulations, we strongly recommend booking in advance. For the best chance of flying, schedule your experience for the morning after arrival, ensuring an additional opportunity should conditions prevent the balloons flying on your first attempt.
Trekking, Mountain Biking & Horse Riding
Cappadocia’s awe-inspring terrain lends itself to a plethora of outdoor activities. Trekking trails wind through hidden valleys, past frescoed cave churches and striking volcanic formations, offering vistas that feel almost untouched by time.
For a faster pace, mountain biking allows you to weave through scenic gorges and open plateaus, while horse riding offers a more traditional approach—the region is, after all, known as the “Land of Beautiful Horses.” A reputable local riding school caters to all levels, from gentle hacks for beginners to overnight expeditions for experienced equestrians.
Historic & Religious Sightseeing
Cappadocia’s history is etched into its landscapes, where every valley, cave, and rock-hewn dwelling tells a story of faith, resilience, and survival. Descend into the labyrinthine depths of Kaymaklı’s underground cities, where entire civilisations once sought refuge, or step inside hidden cave churches, their ancient frescoes whispering the legacy of early Christianity.
The region’s open-air museums and monastic settlements offer a captivating window into centuries of devotion and ingenuity. The main towns—Avanos, Ürgüp, Göreme, Uçhisar, and Nevşehir—serve as gateways to a wealth of historic sites, each revealing a different facet of Cappadocia’s UNESCO-listed heritage.
Beyond its storied past, Cappadocia transforms with the seasons. Trek through meadows blanketed in wild poppies come spring, savour the orchards heavy with fruit in summer, admire the russet glow of autumn’s vineyards, and embrace the silent magic of snow-draped valleys in winter. Whatever the time of year, this extraordinary landscape remains a place of awe, wonder, and discovery.
Botany, Ornithology & Painting
A haven for botanists and birdwatchers alike, Cappadocia is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, thriving amid its unique geological formations. The region’s ethereal light and dramatic landscapes have also drawn artists for centuries, with many choosing to settle here, inspired by its shifting hues and striking contrasts.
Whether capturing the scene with a brushstroke or a camera lens, Cappadocia’s natural beauty is an artist’s muse.
