Kalkan, a lovely harbour town with gorgeous restaurants, boutique hotels and private villas
Kalkan; once a small fishing village known as Kalamaki, is now one of the most sophisticated and picturesque seaside resorts in Turkey. It offers a wide variety of boutique hotels, cosmopolitan restaurants, shops and bars dotted along the pretty harbour-front and up along the steep cobbled back streets of this beautiful old town. There are still many roof top restaurants with the gorgeous views over the harbour, though over the last few years the back streets have also come into their own with Old Street being one of the favourites with several fantastic new restaurants opening up and a lovely vibe in the evenings.
It is no surprise Kalkan has become so popular for both holidaymakers and investors over the years, yet despite this, it has managed to retain its unique character and charm and is now a relaxed, yet sophisticated choice for an escape to Turkey.
All of us at the Discerning Collection know Kalkan inside out. We all tend to holiday there at least once every two years and our Director Viv spends the summer months in Kalkan with her children as we also have an office there. So we have absolute, up to date knowledge of what’s happening in this delightful harbour town. We can tell you which restaurants are in vogue and which ones our guests are avoiding.
Days can be spent simply lazing by the pool of your villa or hotel, or at one of the many beach clubs for a dip in the sea. Or why not head out to sea on one of the many boats from the harbour, a gorgeous and relaxing day. Perhaps even try your hand at some water sports, explore further afield and visit the ancient ruins at Patara Beach or visit the nearby bustling town of Kas via the incredibly beautiful Kaputas Bay, Kalkan truly has something to offer all the family.
If there’s a new hotel or villa, we’ll usually know about it first and will probably be the first operator to feature it, if it fits our guests’ criteria. Kalkan is always evolving and we are proud to help in its development but will always ensure that it never loses its charm.
Our hosts Laura and Deniz visit our hotels daily and offer a discreet yet friendly service. If you are staying in one of our villas or apartments they will also make a visit and are always on hand to assist whilst you are in Kalkan. Nothing is too much trouble for them, they simply want to ensure that you have the best holiday possible whilst in this lovely town.

Made up of platforms cut from the rock at the waters’ edge, they not only allow you to soak up the sun but also the stunning coastline set out before you and combined with the sumptuous meals served at the restaurant and relaxed atmosphere, you will almost certainly be back for more.
