What to Do in an Emergency in Kalkan

Because peace of mind is part of the holiday.

While life in Kalkan tends to flow at an unhurried, sun-dappled pace, we understand that unexpected moments sometimes arise — and knowing who to call or where to turn can make all the difference. Whether it’s a delayed transfer, a missing suitcase, a lost passport or a need for medical care, our warm and experienced team is here to help, discreetly and reassuringly.

Below, we’ve curated a guide to help you navigate those rare but important moments, from local emergency services to practical tips and contacts. And remember — if in doubt, just call us. You’re never alone when travelling with the Discerning Collection.

Your On-the-Ground Support: Laura & Deniz

We are very fortunate to have our wonderful Overseas Manager, Laura, based right here on the Turkish coast. Laura lives in Kalkan during the summer season and in nearby Fethiye through the winter months. She’s not only a deeply experienced local expert, but a mother, a wife, and someone who knows the region inside out — from the best little-known beaches to how to navigate local bureaucracy.

Her husband Deniz also works alongside her, and between them, they are our calm, capable and ever-professional presence in Kalkan. While we don’t encourage out-of-hours calls for minor matters, they are available at all hours in the case of a genuine emergency.

You’ll find their contact details in your pre-departure travel documents and on the arrival card in your villa or boutique hotel. We highly recommend saving these numbers to your phone as soon as you receive your final travel pack. As a reminder, each lead guest also receives 3GB of complimentary eSIM data, allowing you to message or call via WhatsApp should you need us.

If You’re Staying in One of Our Villas or Hotels

  • Your first point of contact will usually be Laura or Deniz, or the hotel night receptionist.

  • If you’re unsure or feeling flustered, hotel reception can always reach Laura directly on your behalf.

  • In a villa or hotel, check the arrival card — their emergency number is listed clearly.

  • We’re always able to assist with language translation, contacting emergency services, liaising with hospitals, or organising onward help.

Travel Disruptions & Lost Luggage

If your transfer driver isn’t there on arrival:

  • Stay calm — the airport can be busy, and sometimes drivers may be caught in traffic.
  • Use your complimentary eSIM to WhatsApp message or call Laura, who will contact your driver.
  • If your phone isn’t working, ask a nearby local or driver to help you call Laura’s number — Turkish people are famously helpful and will almost always be happy to assist.

If your flight is delayed or cancelled:

  • Contact our UK office or Laura immediately — we will coordinate everything, from new transfers to helping rearrange flights.
  • Unless specifically told otherwise, proceed to the airport at your scheduled departure time.
  • If your flight into Turkey is delayed, please don’t worry — we are tracking all live arrivals and will be there when you land.

If your luggage is missing on arrival:

  • Visit the Lost Luggage Desk at the airport before exiting.

  • Provide your baggage receipt and flight details (usually stuck to your boarding pass).

  • They will help you fill in a missing baggage report form and give you a unique tracking code.

  • Be sure to collect this code before leaving the airport — it’s essential for tracking your case.

  • Share this code with Laura if you’d like our help liaising with the airport or ground handlers.

For Serious Emergencies

Ambulance & Urgent Care

  • Dial 112 for ambulance, police, fire, or coast guard.
  • Staff may not always speak English — ask hotel staff or our concierge to help if you’re unsure.
  • The nearest hospital is:
Kaş State Hospital (Kaş Devlet Hastanesi)
    📍 Gökseki Mah., Kaş, Antalya
    📞 +90 242 836 1185

If more advanced care is needed, you may be referred to Fethiye or Antalya. Recommended hospitals in Fethiye include ESNAF and Letoon, each of which is private and has a dedicated translation service to support international patients.

We always recommend seeing a private local doctor first for a quick triage — they can arrange safe onward care if necessary.

Dentists in Kalkan

Kalkan is home to several well-regarded private dental clinics offering check-ups, cleans, fillings, whitening, and more advanced treatments:

Most accept WhatsApp for appointments and queries.

Theft, Loss or Police Assistance

In the unlikely event of theft or loss:

  • For police or burglary reports, contact the Jandarma: +90 242 844 3005
  • They may ask for landmarks or local directions, so have your accommodation details to hand
  • Laura or Deniz can assist with translation or registration if needed

Lost Passport?

Contact the British Honorary Consulate in Fethiye:
📍 Atatürk Caddesi, Likya İş Merkezi, Kat:2 No:202
📞 +90 252 614 6302
📧 bhcfethiye@superonline.com

We recommend keeping a scan of your passport saved securely to your email or phone for ease.

In Case of Accidents or Emergencies on the Road or Beach

  • Road accidents: Call 112 and await the Jandarma — do not move the vehicle until instructed. You’ll need your driving licence and insurance documents.
  • Sea emergencies: Alert the beach café or life guard (Kalkan town beach is staffed), or dial 112 and ask for the Sahil Güvenlik (coastguard).
  • Patara and Kaputaş beaches: No lifeguards, but there are usually Jandarma staff nearby during the season.
  • When driving in Turkey, it is a legal requirement to carry both your driving licence and passport with you at all times.

What You’ll Need If Seeking Medical Help

  • Passport or ID
  • Travel insurance documents
  •  Credit card or cash (for private clinics)
  • Any medications you’re taking

Always keep receipts and documentation for any insurance claims.
