Six Senses Laamu

Six Senses Laamu

Six Senses Laamu: intelligent barefoot luxury in one of the Maldives’ most unspoilt settings

Six Senses Laamu is the only resort in the remote Laamu Atoll, a palm-fringed island reached by either a domestic flight and speedboat transfer (approximately 55 minutes) or a direct seaplane transfer (around 65 minutes) from Malé. Whichever route you choose, the journey charts a mesmerising course over the Indian Ocean, where deep cobalt slowly breaks into clear turquoise as the atoll rises into view.

Here, 94 beachfront and overwater villas are scattered around a pristine lagoon and powder-soft beach, creating a genuine sense of castaway seclusion with all the polish expected of a world-class Maldivian retreat. True to the Six Senses philosophy, the resort is built almost entirely from local, sustainable materials, its villas designed to sit lightly on the landscape while drawing in uninterrupted views of sea and sky. Outdoor bathrooms, spacious decks and glass-bottom features bring the ocean into daily life, while higher categories introduce private pools, treetop lounges and expansive family-friendly layouts.

Life here is shaped by the water. One of the best house reefs in the Maldives circles the island, inviting effortless discovery with resident marine biologists offering guided snorkels, reef conservation experiences and access to the Maldives Underwater Initiative. Diving is superb, and Laamu is also a discreet surfing hotspot: from May to September, the Yin Yang break delivers reliable swells just a short boat ride away, while sheltered lagoons are ideal for kayaking, paddleboarding and catamaran sailing.

On land, wellbeing comes to the fore. The Six Senses Spa is set among palm groves and ocean-facing treatment “nests”, offering bespoke therapies, yoga, meditation, and non-invasive wellness screenings. The Earth Lab reveals the resort’s sustainability work, while SHELL – the Sea Hub for Environmental Learning in Laamu – hosts inspiring exhibitions, workshops and marine research programmes that engage both adults and children.

Dining is notably strong, with a choice of Breakfast, Half Board or Full Board options. Longitude sets the tone with abundant breakfasts and global cookery; Leaf elevates garden-to-table Mediterranean flavours; Zen and Kaji bring refined Japanese dining and teppanyaki; while the relaxed Chill Bar floats above the reef for all-day bites and sunset cocktails. Sip Sip keeps things casual by the main pool, the Altitude Wine Cellar hosts expert tastings suspended above the water, and Ice delights younger guests and adults alike with irresistible homemade ice creams, sorbets and handcrafted chocolates.

A complimentary kids’ club, jungle cinema, yoga pavilion, library and gym add further depth, along with a thoughtfully curated line-up of Maldives experiences: sandbank dinners, sunset dolphin cruises, private yacht excursions and island-hopping adventures.

More than a luxury Maldives resort, Six Senses Laamu is a quietly powerful island sanctuary—where serious environmental credentials, exceptional marine life, intelligent design and barefoot comfort come together in one of the country’s most unspoilt settings.
