Nestled in over 40 acres of terraced vineyards, the Monaci delle Terre Nere is an idyllic countryside retreat, simply perfect for those looking for a quiet getaway or as a base for exploring this magical island. The charming owners, Guido and Ada have lovingly transformed this old estate into a stylish and comfortable boutique hotel with a superb organic restaurant, and unsurprisingly, a selection of wonderful Sicilian wines, many of which are produced on site.
The spacious rooms are scattered all over the grounds giving guests more privacy and space than many hotels offer, whether you stay in the main building or one of the various outbuildings, all of the rooms are unique, yet share many common features, such as the chestnut-wood beams, lava-stone walls and organic cotton linen.
A pre-dinner drink in the Convivium bar is a must, part of the original wine cellar, this elegant bar with its high ceilings and lava-stone walls offers a selection of Etnian wines as well as some wonderful cocktails, created by the hotel’s own excellent mixologist.
Locanda Nerello restaurant offers organic Sicilian dishes, and the majority of the produce, including the delicious olive oil is grown or produced on the estate. Whether dining in the cosy indoor restaurant, or outside on the terrace in the summer taking in the wonderful views over the countryside and out to sea, the food is just sublime.
It would be easy just to spend a few days here and completely switch off in the manicured garden by the inviting swimming pool, but with Mount Etna on your doorstep, beautiful beaches and the vibrant town Taormina nearby, we think Monaci delle Terre Nere is an ideal spot to spend a few nights as part of a tailor-made Sicilian adventure.
