Best beaches in Parga

A more considered guide to the coastline

The beaches in Parga are not something you need to seek out — they are simply part of how the place is experienced.

Within minutes of the town, the coastline opens up into a series of bays and coves, each with a slightly different character. Some are wide and open, others more enclosed and green-fringed, but all share the same clear, swimmable water that defines this stretch of the Ionian.

What tends to happen is less about “visiting” beaches, and more about returning to the ones that fit naturally into your stay.

Swimming in Parga

Clear water, gentle entry and consistently warm conditions

The Ionian Sea along this stretch of coastline is particularly well suited to swimming, and it’s one of the reasons Parga works so well as a destination.

The water is notably clear, with a calm surface for much of the season, and most beaches have a gradual, gently shelving entry — allowing you to move into the sea comfortably rather than stepping straight into depth.

During the main season (May through October), temperatures are reliably warm:

  • May: around 20–21°C
  • June – September: typically 23–26°C
  • August peak: around 25–26°C
  • October: still around 22°C

This combination of clarity, temperature and ease of access makes the sea here something you tend to return to throughout the day, rather than something reserved for a single swim.

“One of the things I always notice in Parga is how inviting the sea is. It’s warm, clear, and you can just walk straight in — there’s no hesitation.”
— Holly Matthews, Head of Product

Are the beaches in Parga suitable for children?

In most cases, yes — and it’s one of the reasons Parga works particularly well for families.

Many of the main beaches have a gradual, gently shelving shoreline, allowing children to enter the water steadily rather than encountering an immediate drop. The sea is typically calm through the summer months, with clear visibility that adds to a greater sense of reassurance when swimming.

  • Valtos Beach → wide, open shoreline with plenty of space
  • Lichnos Beach → sheltered bay with consistently still water
  • Krioneri Beach → smaller and central, well suited to shorter swims

“What stands out to me is how straightforward the beaches are. The entry into the water is gradual, and everything feels very manageable — especially for families.”
— Holly Matthews, Head of Product

Valtos Beach

Spacious, easy and quietly sociable

  • Bars & restaurants: Plenty, relaxed beachside
  • Best time to go: Morning or later afternoon
  • Sea temperature: Warm throughout summer (23–26°C)

In peak summer (July–August), it can be busier around midday, but it’s easy to find quieter moments earlier or later in the day.

“Valtos is one of those beaches I always enjoy going back to. I love how easy it is—you can settle in for the whole day, swim, have lunch, and never feel like you need to move on.”
