Out and About
Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz is located on the very picturesque island of Gozo, it is perfectly based just outside of the village of San Lawrenz. There are plenty of things to do on Gozo with dramatic scenery and coastline and lovely beaches. The resorts of Marsalforn and Xlendi are popular and worth a visit but the coastline which spans 43kms is dramatic and varied with lots of hidden bays and inlets and well worth exploring.
For those a little more energetic there is diving, snorkelling and boat trips as well as horse riding and mountain biking.
The hotel runs a complimentary shuttle bus to Ramla Beach, Marsalfron and Victoria, this normally runs once in the morning and one in the afternoon and then returns late afternoon. It is suggested that you prebook this at least an hour before to secure your seat.
Beaches
There are several beaches within reach from the hotel below are a sample, but it is really worth exploring the rest of the coastline as the coastline is dramatic and varied.
Ramla Beach:
9.8km from the hotel and can be reached by car in 20mins or by the complimentary hotel shuttle service or local bus service (1hr).
It is situated in the north of the island and is one of the largest beaches on Gozo. It is famous as the sand is a golden red which gives its name Ramla meaning ‘red beach’ in Maltese. Considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the Maltese islands and voted in the top 7 most beautiful red beaches by US Travel and Leisure Magazine. With its curved shape and clear and shallow water, it makes it ideal for families.
It also has a statue dedicated to the Virgin Mary erected in the middle of beach in remembrance of a shipwreck in 1881.
Wied il-Ghasri:
5.8km from the hotel and can be reached by car in 12mins or by local bus (1hr)
This secluded bay has a staircase cut into the rock lead down to a narrow inlet. It is ideal for snorkelling or diving enthusiasts and is home to one of Gozo’s top dive sites. The cliffs that surrounds this bay lead you to the 350 year old Xwejni Salt Pans, another great location that you should not miss.
Dahlet Qorrot
11.5km from the hotel and can be reached by car in 20 mins or by local bus (1hr45mins)
This lovely, small pebbly bay is located in the north of the island. You will see the traditional fishermend mending their nets as well as the numerous boathouses that are cut into the rocks and closed off with different colour door, a rare view of how people used to live many years ago.
