Deniz Feneri Lighthouse has long been regarded as the finest waterfront property on the Kas peninsula and is one which the Discerning Collection is delighted to be associated with. Built in 2007 by the charming owners, Turan and Gülgün, The hotel was refreshed in 2018 and in winter 2021 the waterfront suites and also rooms 501, 502, 503 and 504 were further enhanced and now have the addition of their own private pools. Today, the hotel is managed by the well established Mekvin hotel group who have over four decades of experience in this sector and they too have now made some changes to the hotel, services and facilities available.
Deniz Feneri is a calm and contemporary hotel with a distinctive intricate design combination of stone, glass and natural materials which blend seamlessly with its surrounds. Stone cottages topped with terracotta roofs are scattered across the hillside and tumble down towards the water’s edge. Meandering through the hotel grounds are many nooks and crannies together with criss-crossed limestone paths and hidden archways. Miniature lawns and the new health deck are surrounded by brightly coloured fragrant flowers and foliage and provide the perfect spots to pause or enjoy a spot of yoga while admiring the awe-inspiring seascapes.
The large private waterfront is dressed with comfortable day beds perched on platforms and some private cabanas offer full shade- the ideal spot to curl up and nod off after a decadent Turkish breakfast. Sea access is via a floating pontoon where a ladder leads into the sea. Lazy days can be spent beachside, snorkelling or bathing in the crystal clear water alongside the resident loggerhead turtles. By the waterfront, there is also a beach bar and restaurant serving freshly squeezed juices, shakes, cocktails and many more enticing beverages. If lazy days poolside are more your thing, the hotel boasts an infinity-edged swimming pool in the centre of the property with a small separate plunge pool and plenty of day beds -making it easy to while away the hours relaxing in this space.
The short trip to Kas, with its excellent shops, bustling restaurants and vibrant cafe culture, is easily accessible via the local dolmus which runs hourly. If you prefer to dine in, the hotel has a fantastic bar and restaurant, above the infinity- edged swimming pool, a beautiful place to dine and watch the blood orange sunsets. The Terrace Restaurant serves a selection of Mediterranean and International cuisine and has recently been renovated now boasting a minimal, paired back bohemian vibe. Lunch is available at either the main Terrace Restaurant or by the water’s edge. Please note the waterside restaurant may not be in operation at the beginning and end of the season for logistical and weather reasons. The menu consists of salads, light bites such as nachos and goujons as well as sharing platters and main events. The menu is inspired by international and Mediterranean flavours. There is a huge beverage menu serving an enormous choice of shakes, freshly squeezed juices, hot drinks, beers, cocktails and much more!
Dinner (19.00 – 22.30)
There are two venues for Dinner, either the waterside restaurant or Terrace restaurant both are open daily. The main Terrace Restaurant serves an array of international and Mediterranean favourites, while the waterside restaurant has an emphasis on Fish and is meyhane style offering a selection of mezze and an array of interesting dishes from the sea. Please note the waterside restaurant may not be in operation at the beginning and end of the season.

The private waterfront at Deniz Feneri is one of the largest in coastal Turkey. It is reached by a cascade of steps. There are w/c and changing facilities en-route to the bathing platforms.

Situated a mere 25 minutes from Kalkan, easy-going Kaş has all the charm of its neighbour – a labyrinth of cobbled alleys, a colourful café culture scene, quirky boutiques – a working harbour town and a verdant peninsula which is home to some of the finest residences on the entire Lycian Coast. The Lycian carved rock tombs and the King’s Tomb sarcophagus situated on Uzuncarsi Caddesi pay testament to the sixth century BC settlement of Antiphellos from which today’s town of Kaş was born.
Every Friday, the weekly market is held starting early just after 8am and wrapping up as the sun sets. It’s a real mix of locally produced organic food, clothing and bric-a-brac and is definitely worth a visit even if it is simply to take stock and feel the local authentic ambience. The pazar takes place under cover and if you are looking for the season’s finest fresh picks it is best to go early, then take stop for refreshment at one of the makeshift cafés to watch as a delightful tasting Gözleme (local pancake) is prepared in front of you. Kaş’s sea-faring nature is not limited to the old harbour since a new, sea marina was added in 2011 as a base for the yachting fraternity to moor and shore as well as weekly charters. Masts sing as you meander around the marina which is located on the approach to the town from the west. No visit to Kaş is complete without wandering through the old town and picking a meyhane restaurant for a light dinner. Here local folk linger over a bottle of Raki while tasting an array of exceptional small plates- all locally prepared using the freshest seasonal ingredients.

The standard rooms are approximately 20 sqm and have double beds, each room has an en-suite shower, w/c and private terrace with garden and terrace views. There is one twin bedded room in this room category, 206. Suitable for up to two guests.
The slightly more spacious Lighthouse Rooms are approximately 25 sqm and have a queen-size bed (if double), divan seating area and a glorious picture window that imbibes the glorious seascape views. There are 2 twin bedded rooms in this category, 202 and 304- these rooms can also sleep up to 3 guests.
All rooms have a balcony with table and chairs and 102, 103, 203 and 204 benefit from a sunbed on the balcony so you can kick back in privacy on your balcony whilst basking sunny Turkish skies!

The Waterfront Suites are incredibly popular! Each spacious suite is located on the hillside just below the swimming pool and the waterfront, each is beautifully housed in a stone circular three-storey building with a terracotta roof.
Entrance is onto the fist floor, large sitting room dominated by the high-domed ceiling and is naturally bright and airy throughout. The sitting room has a specially designed sofa bed which can be made up as a double or twin enabling up to 4 guests to reside in this room category,
French windows lead out onto the large terrace with superb sea views. Circular steps wrap around the interior and lead up to the second floor. Mid level en- route to the master bedroom is the bathroom. The bathroom has a separate shower/wc and a circular jacuzzi bath with magnificent picture window to survey those stunning seascape views.
The galleried double bedroom- occupies the second floor, a runway bridge leads to the private balcony with more staggering views out to sea. Good to know, this room is galleried so you can look down on the sitting room from the master bedroom.

Bodrum
Once a small fishing village, enigmatic Bodrum is a thriving destination offering beautiful beaches and chi-chi beach clubs, a sophisticated and authentic array of bars and restaurants together with a fascinating historical and cultural scene; including a 15th Century castle and architecturally interesting buildings.
The unassuming beauty of the Gulf of Fethiye & Göcek region is accentuated by its accessibility from the airport: just 20 minutes’ drive to Göcek harbour from Dalaman, which brings you straight into the heart of chichi coastal Turkey. It’s another 40 minutes to downtown Fethiye, a lively, working town with a gentrified seafront and one of the finest harbours on the entire coast. Both provide easy access to an archipelago of twelve islands, crystal clear waters and beneficent winds which make for wonderful sailing. Flanked by dramatic, pine-covered mountains and not a high-rise in site, their waterfront settings are exceptional. Beyond the two harbour towns an array of sandy beaches await, including some of Turkey’s best-known (Ölü Deniz) and less discovered finds such as Kabak and Kidrak.
Kalkan is a picturesque harbour town set in a vast horseshoe bay, flanked by a rocky mountainous backdrop. All have a laid back barefoot vibe, most with waiter service and each offering a slightly different experience. Just up the road, Patara is a favourite for all, this long stretch of golden sand will appeal to little people longing to build a sandcastle or two and the breeze makes the intense peak summer heat more endurable. Beyond the dunes sits the ancient Lycian site of Patara which was once an important trading port and the supposed birthplace of St Nicholas.
The Kas Peninsula is a wonderful setting for a holiday: the views across the blue sea to the Greek island of Meis are spectacular and the land slopes down to the rocky coastline where swimming platforms let you plunge straight into the crystal clear water.
Kas is perhaps a little like the ‘big brother’ of Kalkan. Like Kalkan, it has an attractive harbour and winding cobbled streets climbing a hillside. It has a slightly bohemian feel, attracting a range of visitors of different nationalities and ages. The town has a wonderful selection of shops and restaurants, many with charming roof terraces with views over the square and harbour front.
The Bozburun and Datça peninsula’s have a distinctly Greek feel which sets them apart from the rest of coastal Turkey. This is partly because of their proximity to the Greek Southern Dodecanese ring and the island of Symi is just five miles across the strait. Along the roadside is the waft of drying thyme, rosemary and sage as men twiddle worry beads sipping endless cups of Turkish tea. The area is known for its thyme-scented honey which is sold by the roadside.
Istanbul is a spectacular city that you will never tire of. Steeped in ancient history, today it is a café society with a minaret-lined skyline, a confluence of ancient tradition and contemporary delights. It bemuses and amuses in equal measure. The city famously straddles – both geographically and philosophically – Europe and Asia and stimulates every visitor with a melange of the exotic and familiar. Its geographical position alone – at the neck of trading routes between the Mediterranean and Africa – has afforded the city an important trading position since the Byzantine era. And the Golden Horn, nestling within the city, is one of the world’s finest natural harbours.
The Cappadocia National Park region covers over 24,000 square kilometres with a distinct and highly unusual landscape. The valley of Fairy Chimneys is the most popular area, roughly within the triangle formed by the three main towns of the region, Avanos, Urgup and Nevsehir. There’s really no adequate way of conveying the surreal moonscape- the enormity of the skies and awe-inspiring geology is something that can only be truly appreciated in person.
